Focus: Hold the shutter button down halfway. Use both hands to take pictures and hold the camera still, keep the camera close to your body.
Rule of Third: divides a picture shot into 9 grids (object should be in one of the middle corners of the grid). Move subject from the center of the picture.
Lighting (artificial vs natural): sun should always be over your shoulder. Have good backlighting, clouds are a good thing
Importance of Background: eliminate unnecessary items in the pictures background, plain backgrounds are best
